Per share the fee peaks at 50¢. Per dollar spent it is highest on cheap shares: $100 of Crypto shares at 5¢ pays $6.65, the same amount at 95¢ pays $0.35. Geopolitics and world-events markets charge no fee.
How it works
Polymarket charges takers, the traders who fill an order already on the book, a fee of shares × feeRate × p × (1 − p), where p is the share price. The term p × (1 − p) is largest at 50¢, so a contested market costs the most per share and a near-certain one the least. Measured against the money you put in, the fee is feeRate × (1 − p), which is why buying long shots is the expensive end.
The fee raises your break-even. Without fees, a share bought at 50¢ pays off if the true probability is above 50%. With a Crypto-market taker fee it has to be above about 51.75%. A strategy with a two-point edge at 50¢ keeps only an eighth of it after the fee, and if you also sell before resolution, you pay a second fee on the way out.
Limit orders avoid all of it. Makers pay nothing and share a daily rebate funded by the taker fees. The full breakdown, with category rates and rebates, is in how Polymarket fees work.
Questions
How much does Polymarket charge per trade?
Takers pay shares × feeRate × p × (1 − p). As of October 2026 the feeRate is 0.07 for Crypto, 0.05 for Sports, Economics, Culture, Weather, Other and Combos, 0.04 for Finance, Politics, Mentions and Tech, and 0 for Geopolitics. A 100-share Crypto trade at 50¢ costs $1.75.
Do makers pay fees on Polymarket?
No. Limit orders that rest on the book and get filled pay no fee, and makers receive a daily share of the taker fees through the Maker Rebates program.
Is there a fee when a market resolves?
No. Redeeming winning shares after resolution is not a trade and carries no taker fee. Selling before resolution is a trade and pays the fee at the exit price.
Why are cheap shares more expensive in fees?
Per dollar spent, the fee is feeRate × (1 − p). At 5¢ you buy twenty shares per dollar and pay fee on all of them, so the fee is close to the full feeRate; at 95¢ it is almost nothing.
